Swapping bricks and mortar for water

Swapping bricks and mortar for water. (but what about all the "stuff"?) making the decision to leave my well paid but very dissatisfying job, sell my house, clear all debt and trade bricks and mortar for water was the best thing I ever did. But what about all the stuff? The accumulated possessions, physical objects practical, ornamental, esoteric, ephemeral or sentimental? what did i actually need? boats don't have lofts or basements to act as holding pens for that which we don't really require in our lives but are reluctant to relinquish. space and storage is precious and limited. now all inanimate passengers must justify their berth. A savage cull of clutter was required. It was a strangely satisfying and liberating exercise. if you haven't used it for a royal flush of seasons let it go.Did i really need 27 knives, 18 forks, 11 spoons, 9 bowls,11 dinner plates etc? Of course not.4 of each is ample. keep the best 4.simples! Electrical items even easier.I chose early on to be self sufficient with solar. 12v usb, LED, off grid.no space or need for microwave or electric kettle.the wood burner doubles as stove.large items like furniture had to go also but how and where? I gave it all away and it felt great. some to charity shops but mostly i remembered who had mentioned that they liked such and such a coffee table, teapot, beautiful but beyond repair mandolin, piano, sandwich toaster, bakerlite teasmade, cuddly toy. I remembered who and gave them the items they'd so admired, often many years before. Could have made a few grand, I had a lot of nice stuff but the reward I've derived from friends and family telling me that they still use the teasmade every sunday morning or apologetically asking if i mind that they've given the glass topped coffee table to their son and daughter in law for their first home as he'd coveted it always. of course that's fine.i;d forgotten about it. it's just a "thing". it's only "stuff". I'm happy to know these bits and pieces from my past are continuing their journey and being appreciated by their new families. Pay it forward peeps
